Ali Hazama, MD

Dr. Hazama, director of neurosurgery at the Upstate Community Hospital location of the Upstate Brain and Spine Center, has a specialty focus on minimally invasive spine surgery. One of the few surgeons in the region who can perform these spine surgeries, his minimally invasive approach offers potential treatment options to correct common spine problems. Dr. Hazama received his MD degree from the University of Chicago Medical School and did his residency in neurological surgery at Upstate Medical University.

Walter Hall 

Dr. Walter Hall has been a Board-Certified practicing neurosurgeon for more than 30 years, the last 17 of which have been at Upstate Medical University. Prior to arriving in Syracuse, Dr. Hall was a faculty member at the University of Minnesota. He earned his medical degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and did his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He spent two years at the National Institutes of Health in the Surgical Neurology Branch as a Medical Staff Fellow from 1987 to 1989. He was the 1990 recipient of the Van Wagenen Fellowship of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons which he spent working in the Department of Tumor Biology of the Norwegian Radium Hospital in Oslo, Norway. Dr. Hall has clinical interests in benign and malignant brain tumors, pituitary tumors, cervical spine surgery, gamma knife radiosurgery, and trigeminal neuralgia.
