Rajin Shahriar, MD
Pediatric Orthopedics

Dr. Shahriar is board certified and fellowship trained in Pediatric Orthopedics. Dr. Shahriar provides specialized care for children with consideration of their condition and how it affects growing bones. He specializes in treatment of the full spectrum of pediatric musculoskeletal conditions including fractures and extremity abnormalities such as hip disorders, foot deformities and alignment issues. He also manages spine conditions and musculoskeletal issues associated with neurological disorders.

Robert A. Sherman, MD
Joint Replacement/Reconstruction

Dr. Sherman is board certified and fellowship trained in adult reconstructive surgery and total joint arthroplasty. He has particular interests in lower extremity joint reconstruction, including minimally invasive hip and knee replacements, partial knee replacements, revision joint replacements, and management of fractures and injuries around joint replacement. His interests also include operative and non-operative management of arthritis, fractures, and general orthopedics. Dr. Sherman’s surgical expertise includes the most up to date implants and techniques for hip and knee replacements, performing traditional in-patient joint replacements as well as using state-of-the-art technology like the MAKO-Robotic-Arm assisted procedure, and same day out patient joint replacement procedures.

Scott M. VanValkenburg, MD
Foot and Ankle

Dr. VanValkenburg is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in all aspects of orthopedic foot and ankle care, including lower extremity traumatic injuries as well as foot and ankle reconstruction, ankle replacement, and deformity correction. He also has particular interests in treating sports related ankle injuries including ligament reconstruction as well as ankle arthroscopy and managing arthritic and post-traumatic disease of the foot and ankle.  His research interests encompass many different facets of foot and ankle surgery including perioperative risk prevention and total ankle replacements.

Zachary Vredenburgh, MD
Sports Medicine

Dr. Zachary D. Vredenburgh is the latest addition to the growing team of orthopedic specialists at Upstate Orthopedics. A graduate of Cornell University, Dr. Vredenburgh went on to earn his medical degree at Upstate Medical University. He completed his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery at Rutgers – Robert Wood Johnson, and completed his Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Southern California. He most recently completed a secondary Fellowship in Complex Hip Surgery at Inselspital, Bern, Switzerland, an internationally recognized center for orthopedic development and research.

Dr. Vredenburgh specializes in the treatment of sports medicine injuries with a focus on arthroscopic and open treatment of problems of the shoulder, hip, and knee. He has a particular interest in the treatment of the young adult hip, including procedures to preserve the hip joint such as hip arthroscopy.

Allyson Zakrzewski

Allyson Zakrzewski, MD
Pediatric Orthopedics

Dr. Zakrzewski is a fellowship trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeon that specializes in the operative and non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions from infancy through adolescence. She is dedicated to providing a personalized treatment plan that meets the unique needs of each patient and family. Dr. Zakrzewski has clinical expertise in the diagnosis, management and treatment of orthopaedic conditions resulting from traumatic injuries, congenital and developmental conditions and neuromuscular disorders. She has special interest in pediatric fracture care, sports injuries, clubfoot, lower and upper extremity deformity, spinal deformity and scoliosis along with pediatric and adolescent foot and hip conditions. She has experience in caring for the musculoskeletal needs of children with cerebral palsy and spina bifida, as well as other neuromuscular and genetic disorders. Dr. Zakrzewski strives to approach treatment through non-operative and conservative methods. If surgery is necessary to restore function and mobility, Dr. Zakrzewski has been trained in innovate procedures and advanced surgical techniques.
